This initial begins the first response of the first nocturn of Matins for Third Sunday of September, 'Peto domine ut de uinculo improperii huius absolvas me ...' (I beg, O Lord, that you absolve me from the bond of this reproach).
This image shows the reverse of a leaf with a decorated initial from an antiphonary. This side of the leaf, the true verso, continues the first response of the first nocturn of Matins for Third Sunday of September, which begins on the reverse.
