Will of Richard Lake [Leake?] of Theydon Garnon, Essex, yeoman and probate grown. Signed and delivered in the presence of the clerk Nicholas Wright, Thomas Lake, and John Windfrey. Second sheet is a Memorandum/codicil. William Lake, son of Richard Lake, bequeaths the property and lands to his son John Lake along with Probate, in Latin, attached as an additional sheet. Parchment, single sheet with tag, seal no longer attached; an additional parchment sheet (125 x 150 mm) is attached by the parchment tag. 294 x 452 mm. Written in a light English secretary script; additional sheet written in a hurried secretary script with a darker ink. Folded five times.
Written in England, Essex and dated 30 December 1 Charles I (1626) and 1634. Inscription in a near-contemporary hand on lower middle portion of dorse: "30 Dec 1625 Richards Leaks Will Essex__5" ; followed by "Essex | II" in pencil. Also in pencil on dorse, "2311." Gift of Department of History, Western Michigan University to Special Collections, Waldo Library circa 1999.
