This initial begins the hymn 'Vexilla regis prodeunt ...' (Abroad the regal banners fly), sung at Vespers on the first and second Sundays of Passion Week.
This image shows the reverse of a leaf with a flourished initial. It contains the final verses of the hymn, 'Aures ad nostras deitatis preces ...,' sung during Lent in the rite of the Carmelite Order, specifically during second Vespers on Sundays.
This cutting can be dated to the 15th or 16th centuries.
