In this cutting, a large, red "I" was painted over the initial "E" that the illuminator originally intended. The red pigment is close to the ink used in the rubrics of the reverses of initials in this group. The "I" may have been added to correct a mistake made by the illuminator.

These twenty-five initials are taken from a large illuminated choir book or set of choir books typical of the type found in Italy during this time (see, for example, Lewis E 10).
