This decorated initial is typical of minor initial decoration in many late medieval manuscripts. The rubric to the left of the initial is an abbreviation of 'Ad matutina antiphona,' indicating that the initial once began an antiphon sung at matins during an unidentified feast or regular office.
This cutting can be dated to the 14th or 15th centuries.
