Decoration: 11-line initial [A] in blue with white filigree on gold, historiated with Aaron (at left, in Bishop's robes holding a censer) and Moses, plagues of frogs and locusts on the ground, both figures gazing at the face of God in the heavenly aperture above. Binding: Housed in an oversized folder. Formerly attached to vellum sheet 230 x 175 mm Origin: Written in Flanders in the third quarter of the fifteenth century. Provenance: No. 37 in dealer's hand on vellum sheet, probably the leaf's number in the dealer's portfolio, as on BPL pb. Med. 174. Same dealer's handwritten description on the vellum sheet reads "Flemish or Dutch: late xv century/ Initial "A," showing Aaron (with censer) and Moses before the Almighty; also, the plagues of locusts and of frogs. [Exodus, chaps. viii & x.]" Immediate source of acquisition: Purchased in 1957 from Maggs. Call number: MS pb Med.175. Former call number: MS 1600.
