Conjectured date of production based on an inscription on what was originally the first leaf of the Missal (see provenance note).

Layout: Two columns (60 mm each), 21 lines; bounding and writings lines in blind or light plummet; square Gregorian notation on a four-line red staff, no stems.

Decoration: Two-line initials throughout in red and blue with white filigree highlighting and spiked bar extensions with foliate ends extending well into margins.
Decoration 2: When whole, the manuscript had 309 leaves, thirty-five large decorative initials with burnished gold, numerous smaller initials, and four historiated initials, three depicting the celebration of mass, and the fourth, Ecclesia and Synagoga.
Origin: Written in France in the late 13th century.
Provenance 1: Commissioned in the late 13th century, according to an inscription on what was originally the opening leaf (now lost), given by bequest from Canon Robert de Hangest to the cathedral of Beauvais on 3 November of an unknown year at the end of the 13th century ("Dns Robertus de hangestis quondam can.cus Beluacci legauit Istam terciam ptem missalis Ecclie Beluaccii p obitu suo in...
Provenance 2: It was last recorded as complete (and described in detail) when it was sold at Sotheby's London on 4 May 1926, lot 161, as part of the Brölemann collection (SDBM 6017). In that catalogue, the lower edge of the manuscript was described as gilt "au pointillé"; the gilt is still discernable on the leaves' edges. Purchased by Permain in 1926, the manuscript was later acquired by Otto...
Provenance 3: The calendar page on whose blank recto the Beauvais inscription was written has since been lost. Numerous leaves of this manuscript survive in Ege portfolios in collections throughout North America (see http://ege.denison.edu/manuscripts_locations_list.php for an up-to-date listing of portfolio locations). Single leaves, not part of portfolios, can be found in the following...
