Bibliographic record created by BPL staff based in part on description by Dr. Lisa Fagin Davis.
Secundo folio: Restat agere de accidia...
Collation: Paper with "D" watermark similar to Briquet 8122 (Genova 1411/12), fol. iii (two leaves of modern paper, third leaf early/contemporary paper) + 10 ; 110 ; original roman foliation, CLVI-CLXV, lower left corner each verso and possibly effaced from lower right corner of each recto; 19th-century ink arabic foliation 1-10, upper right corner each recto.
Layout: One column, 40 lines. Bounding and writing lines in light plummet.
Script: Written in a humanistic cursive with ascenders on top line extending well into upper margin, in brown ink with brown rubrics.
Decoration: The first line of each text in an enlarged gothic bookhand. Sentence initials stroked red; 2- to 3-line red epigraphic capitals throughout, that on fol. 1 with brown filigree.
Origin: Written in Italy in the fifteenth century; the inclusion of the final text concerning the history of central Italy suggests the manuscript originated in that region, although the paper stock is associated with Genoa in the north.
Binding: 19th-century green marbled boards, brown calf spine and corners, title gilt on spine: "Raimundi/ de septem/ vitiis." Dark salmon paper pastedowns and flyleaves, except for fol. ii and second-to-last flyleaf, which are onionskin paper, and fol. iii which is 18th century paper with a Maid of Holland watermark countermarked CWS, apparently a remnant flyleaf from an earlier binding.
Provenance: Contents written by 18th-century cursive hand on fol. iii. BPL Bookplate of the Pierce Fund on the inside front cover, annotation fol. iiiv, embossed on fol. iii and 1; SDBM 42800 and 197863.
Immediate source of acquisition: Purchased at the sale of Joachim Guerrini on Oct. 8 1878 (Leonard & Co., Boston, lot no. 1160)
Call number: MS f Med.17.
Former call number: MS G.401.36.
