Manuscript fragment. Title devised by cataloger. Portion of John XVIII. "The right-hand column of this page survives at Brno in the Czech Republic and a further fragment of the manuscript is at Děčín, also in the Czech Republic. From the evidence of all three fragments it is possible to glean that the original manuscript was a lectionary containing the Old and New Testament lessons to be recited at Mass throughout the church year."--Clemens, R. Introduction to... Layout: Written in long lines; ruled in dry point. Script: Written in Caroline minuscule with pre-Caroline elements. See Clemens, R. Introduction to Manuscript studies for complete description of script. Origin: Written in south-eastern Germany (possibly Regensburg) in the early 9th century. Evidence of stitching holes and thread on the top, bottom, and one edge. Additional holes caused by skin defect at top. Fragment was likely used at one time as a part of a binding.
