Origin: Written probably in Ghent, approximately 1470, by the Brethren of Jerome, as suggested by the binding and the calendar of the diocese of Tournai, for the use of a secular church; Proper of Saints and choice of sequences are to be found in printed Tournai missals.
Armorial bookplate, gold-stamped leather of Eduard Hailstone.
Former owner's inscription: fol. 1r: rubbed out, visible under ultraviolet light: "Missale istud reuenit ad mensam sancti spiritus in ecclesia sancti Michaelis grandauensis." This church rebuilt 1480
Inserted: Mass for Pharahildis on leaf inserted after fol. 12 in the Proper of Time added for Ghent use.
Former owner's signature: "Bernarts" incorporating a notarial-like signum, 15th- or 16th-century on front pastedown.
