Date suggested by use of papal knots in the ascenders into the upper margin, indicating a date not later than c. 1230.
In a small gothic bookhand, with ascenders into the upper margin, in black ink on vellum, with five verticals and 53 horizontals lightly ruled in plummet (Interpretation of Hebrew Names in 3 cols. of 60 lines between eight verticals and 61 horizontals); two-line chapter initials alternating in red or blue, with penwork and flourishes in contrasting color; chapter numbering and running titles...
Eight modern vellum endleaves at front of text contain Peckover's ownership inscription-- "Alexander Peckover, Harecroft House, Wisbech, Sept. 1874"--his description of the ms., and a transcription of Bedford's bill for the binding, dated Aug. 5, 1875. Eight modern vellum endleaves at end of text are blank.
