Ms. codex. Title from colophons. 13 lines per page. Written in medium large naskh in black ink with use of red for headings. Red dots outlined in black text-stops. Thick cream paper with laid and chain lines visible. Marginal annotations. Collation notes and inscriptions on the margins. Centre of the quires (mostly quinions) marked by signs on the corners in some vol. Catchword on the verso of each leaf. Some leaves worm-eaten. Vol. 4 apparently from another set. 11 lines, written in medium large naskh in black ink with use of red ; black ink circle with one black dot at its center for textstops ; groups of four dots in red and in black at each side of the headings in the beginning of the vol. The binding of this vol. does not match with the binding of the other vol. of the set. However, the reading statements on the... Vol. 5 : The first 5 fol. are later replacements in European paper. Copy of vol. 4 completed on Wednesday 22 Jumādá al-Ākhirah 839 or 829 by his owner, Abū Bakr ibn Aḥmad al-Kazalī al-Ḥanbalī (fol. 100b). Copy of vol. 5 completed on 24 Shawwāl 834 ["thalāthīn" added between the lines] (colophon, fol. 68b). Copy of vol. 22 completed 27 Ṣafar 835 by Muḥammad ibn Ḥamdān ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaʻūb(?) ibn Asad, known as Ibn Maʻlā ... bi-nāḥiyat Qāy min iqlīm al-Hnsāyah? bi-Miṣr. Several reading statements and ijāzāt on the last folios of each vol. and on the margins of the text, mostly refering to Damascus or al-Ṣāliḥīyah, dated 10th-13th cent. H. [15th-19th c.]. These include several in the name of the wāqif, Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn al-shaykh Shihāb al-Dīn ibn al-Najjār, who read the text under Abū Bakr ibn ʻAlī ibn Muḥammad Ibn al-Ḥarīrī al-Shāfiʻī, dated Jumādá... On vol. 3, 9, 17, 18, 22, 25 : Waqf statement dated Jumādá I - II 853 [Jul. Aug. 1449] in the name of Shams al-Dīn Abū ʻAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Shihāb al-Dīn Abī al-ʻAbbās Aḥmad al-Shāfiʻī al-Muqriʼ, known as Ibn al-Najjār [Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Dāʼūd, ca. 788 - ca. 870 [1386-1466], see Sakhawī. al-Ḍawʼ al-lāmiʻ, vol. 6, p. 308], mentioning the condition that this copy be read on Mondays and... On vol. 4 : Waqf statement in the name of Zayn al-Dīn Abū al-Faraj ...ibn Jamāl al-Dīn Yūsuf al-Ḥanbalī(?) for those interested in ḥadith ("ʻuqalāʼ al-mushtaghilūn bi-al-ḥadīth al-nabawī") in Sāliḥīyah (Damascus), dated 854(?). Acquired from Murād Bey Bārūdī, Beirut, 1925. Three spine labels on each vol. (some wanting) with inscriptions, respectively "al-juzʼ al-sābiʻ [al-...] min Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī tajziyah thalāthīn juzʼan" [in Arabic script] ; "vol. 7 [-...]" [in Roman numerals] ; "235" [in Arabic and Western numerals].
