Collation: Paper, except fol. 1 and 10 on parchment ; fol. 156 (foliated 1-156 in modern pencil) ; 1-1410 156 16-174 182 ; quires 17 and 18 signed B and A, respectively.
Layout: Written in 2 columns of 60-66 lines, above line; horizontal lines ruled in ink, inner and outer bounding lines ruled in lead.
Script: Written in Cursiva by at least 4 scribes (one for the Prologue and the Distinctiones, one for Errores philosophorum, one for Letter of Lentulus to the Senate, one for the Index to the Distinctiones). The scribe of the Prologue and the Distinctiones is identified as Martucius of Prato in note made by an early owner on fol. 152v: "Hunc librum quem composuit Reverendus Magister Girardus...
Decoration: Illuminated miniature of Saint Augustine standing next to a kneeling figure at head of fol. 1r; illuminated floral and vine border to lower and outer margin of fol. 1r in green, blue, pink, and gold with central putti holding two wreaths; 18-line illuminated initial on fol. 22r in green, pink, yellow, and gold; pen-flourished initials (4- to 6-line) throughout Distinctiones.
Binding: Late 19th- or early 20th-century dark blue cloth over boards; author, title, and University of Chicago location information stamped in gold on spine. Earlier binding, now lost, included 4 sheets of printed waste from Italian printers produced in the first decade of the 1500s. Printed waste has been retained and cataloged separately.
Origin: Written approximately between 1466 and 1470 based on dates provided in explicits. Likely produced in Italy early ownership evidence.
