Script: Written by 2 scribes in cursive miniscule: scribe 1, fol. 1r-84v; scribe 2, fol. 85r-102v.
Decoration: 2-line plain initials; initials within text slashed in red; paragraph marks and circles around holes in parchment in red.
Music: Notation on pastedowns 12th cent. neumes in campo aperto of the St. Gall type, without lines.
Binding: 15th cent. Dark brown calf over wooden boards cut flush with the book block, with simple blind ruling. Pastedowns from a noted Antiphonale. Evidence of 5 bosses on each cover, of fore edge straps closing from bottom to top, and of chain on lower center back cover. Binding severely damaged by worms.
Origin: Written during the 2nd half of the 15th cent. in Mainz for use in the cathedral church (Dom) of St. Martin, as evidenced by frequent textual references to Mainz, to St. Martin (as "maior ecclesia"), and to the Benedictine abbeys of St. Alban and St. James. Reference on leaf 90r-v to Gerhard, Archbishop of Mainz, 1289-1305, has caused some to date the manuscript to ca. 1305.
