Manuscript codex
Collation: ii (modern paper, i is pastedown) + 52 (parchment and modern paper) + ii (modern paper, ii is pastedown): 1² + 1 leaf added before 1 + 2⁴ (wants 1, 3) + 3⁴ (wants 1) + 4⁴ (wants 1) + 5⁴ (wants 1, 2) + 6-8⁴ + 9⁴ (wants 1) + 10-15⁴. Only the first leaf is parchment.
Foliation: Modern foliation in pencil in upper right corner (3-52).
Watermarks: Partial watermarks present on the upper part of leaves near inner margins (unidentified).
Layout: All paper leaves have a double lined full frame in ink, inside which the parchment cuttings are pasted according to no apparent order or layout.
Script: Written by multiple hands. Writing is visible only on a few cuttings; both Gothic rotunda and Humanistic bookhand are present.
Decoration: Initials of different sizes representing several different styles, including historiated and anthropomorphic initials as well as those with foliate and penwork decorations. About half have either a gold background or another decoration in gold; parts of border decorations of different styles.
Music: The fragment that constitutes the first folio of the codex as well as the cuttings pasted on folios 3r, 4r, 14r, 18r, 37r, 38r, 39r, 47r, 48r and 52r contain music, mostly square notation on four-line staff in red.
Binding: Modern. Bound in parchment and paste paper in light brown patterns over paper boards. Sewn endbands in light blue and red. Paper slipcase covered with the same paste paper. The slipcase is lightly soiled, deformed and damaged around the corners. Two paper labels adhered to head and tail of spine. A paper label adhered to upper part of slipcase. Origin: Probably put together in the first half of the nineteenth century in Italy. Manuscript cuttings, presumably all also of Italian origin, are dated to the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries.

In relatively good condition except for missing leaves and missing manuscript cuttings from the existing leaves. Modern annotations in pencil, mostly for the purpose of numbering or categorizing the cuttings, throughout.
Early history of the manuscript is unknown. Possible bookseller marks in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedown: "ycx / 325." Octagonal paper label with a blue border and a handwritten number "3463" adhered to tail of spine. - Keyword:
