Foliation: Two sets of modern foliation in pencil: in lower right corner (1-71; 73-186, skipping folios 7 and 163); in upper right corner (2-9; 17; 25; 30; 33; 40; 45; 50; 55; 59-60; 65; 70-71; 73;75; 80-81; 89; 95; 97-100; 105; 113; 120; 130; 135; 140; 145; 153; 155; 159; 160; 165; 167; 170; 175; 180; 183; 185-188.). Signatures: Quires signed 1-24 in pencil in lower left corner on the recto of first folio of each gathering beginning with the first quire.
Catchwords: Horizontal catchwords to the right of center or at center on folios 8v, 16v, 24v, 32v, 40v, 48v, 56v, 64v, 72v, 80v, 96v, 104v, 112v, 120v, 136v, 144v, 152v, 158v, 166v, 174v, 182v.
Layout: Written in 28 long lines, above top line. Ruled in drypoint, with full-length double vertical bounding lines. Pricking marks visible in inner and lower margins in most quires, in outer margins in a few quires.
Script: Written by multiple, very similar hands in Gothica Textualis.
Decoration: 2- to 7-line initials in red, flourished in either red or brown throughout; a 5-line initial L in turquoise flourished in red on folio 34v; 1- to 2-line initials in turquoise flourished in red on folio 130v; 1-line initials in plain red throughout; sentence initials highlighted in red; some rubrics in red.
Binding: Modern. Bound in parchment over thick paper boards by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, London. Binder's stamp on the upper left corner of the verso of the first front flyleaf. Endbands in cream, yellow and light red.
Origin: Probably written in England or France around 1200.

In good condition except for damage to the outer corners of the first two leaves and the excision to the last leaf. Recto of the first leaf is soiled and has an impression in the lower half from rusty metal, perhaps an older fastening. Lower outer corner of folio 73 and lower margin of folio 98 are torn, with no loss of text. Parchment defects throughout, ranging from medium-size holes to cuts...
Hebrew numbering is Psalm 119.
Early history of the manuscript is unknown. From the collection of Sir Thomas Phillipps (Phillipps MS 3596). It is inscribed "Phillipps MS 3596" in ink in the lower margin of folio 1r, now partly effaced. Listed as no. 3596 under "Miscellanea" in The Phillipps Manuscripts.
