Composite ms. codex. Fols. 1-72 are numbered (in medieval Arabic numerals) to correspond with the quodlibetal question that appears on that folio; many of these numerals, which appear in the upper right corner of the recto side, have been mutilated by trimming. The absence of such numeration from fols. 73-90 may be due to trimming. Fol. 104 has been torn, with the loss of some text. Layout: Fols. 1-90 written in 2 columns of 44 lines; fols. 91-121 written in as many as 65 long lines, with much variation. Script: Gothic textual, several hands. The letter-forms in fols. 91-121 show chancery influence and cursive tendencies. Decoration: Fols. 1-90 contain large illuminated initials and smaller initials in red or blue with red or violet flourishes. Fols. 91-121 are not decorated. Binding: Modern, paper with leather straps. The manuscript was rebound by P. Verhegen on 8/2/1994. The previous binding has not been preserved; Calkins states that it consisted of 18th-century vellum, stamped with the initials "W.D.B." and the date "1701". It would therefore share the same provenance as Misc. Bd. Ms. 2 (Quinque Platonicae sapientiae claves / Marsilio Ficino), which bears the... Accompanying materials: three leaves of Latin transcription in modern cursive hands. Origin: Fols. 1-90 were written in Fabriano, Italy by a certain William who belonged to the same religious order as James of Viterbo (Ordo Eremitarum Sancti Augustini), 14th century (see fol. 90v). The scripts contained in fols. 91-121 are not typically Italian, and it is not known when the two manuscripts were first bound together. Provenance: W.D.B. (1701) -- according to the old covers, which are no longer extant, but reported by Calkins. Bought by George Lincoln Burr for the White Library, from Tregaskis, London (Cat. 242, no. 16; May 1893).
