Written in northern Italy, possibly Verona, in a humanistic script and probably dated before 1471 when this manuscript was used for textual edition; contains 3 white vinestem decorated initials. Mostly on paper, interspersed with 100 (chiefly palimpsest) vellum leaves. In a 15th-cent. Italian leather binding with blind tooling and four metal corner ornaments. In a protective tray case, 38 cm. Formerly owned by Richard Heber; his sale, London, Evans, 10 Feb. 1836, pt. XI, no. 1175, to Thorpe; Thorpe cat. 1836, no. 929; sold to Sir Thomas Phillipps (MS 9045); his sale, London, Sotheby's, 10 June 1896, no. 938, to Quaritch. Purchased with the Charles Minot Bequest, 1897.
