- Written in a gothic rotunda hand in two columns in black, red and blue, with musical notation on a 4-line staff. Initial letters are in red and blue and decorated with pen-work.
There are 3 miniatures, 24 historiated initials, 180 illuminated initials, many pen-work borders incorporating birds, and many foliate borders. F. 1r has an illuminated renaissance border incorporating the arms of a bishop.
Probably written in Venice (see Wieck).
Bound in early 19th-century English blue morocco with armorial stamps.
In a half brown leather and cloth tray case, 35 cm.
Made for "L D" (f. 287r); Thomas Edwards of Halifax (his sale, London, 15 May 1828, lot 854); Henry Broadley (signature on front flyleaf); Captain John Harrison-Broadley (his sale, London, Sotheby's, 14 Feb. 1922); A. Chester Beatty (label on spine of tray case "W.MS. 124"; his sale, London, Sotheby's, 9 May 1933, II, lot 67).
