Title from spine. Written in France in a small gothic bookhand, and ruled in two columns of 50 lines, decorated with colored initials in red and blue with contrasting penwork flourishes; extensive marginal annotations in a different script. Bound in repaired 15th-cent. (?) blind-tooled calf with brass bosses; clasps removed. In a protective tray case, 21 cm. Belonged to Maigret, "notaire" of Paris, 1771 (inscribed on verso of front flyleaf); Marie-François Duchesne de Beaumanoir in 1786 (inscribed on front flyleaf); bookplate of Frederic Lindesay, about 1840. Gift of Mrs. William H. Spaulding, 1976.
