A manuscript leaf from a Breviary containing various New Testament passages. On the verso passages include 1 John 2:7-8, John 3:25-26, and Acts 3:20-26. Dividing each Gospel passage is rubricated text and enlarged letter "I", part of the phrase "in ille tempore" and "in diebus illis." The phrases and Gospel passages are typical readings for the Divine office. It can be roughly dated between...
Script: Written in Northern Gothic Textualis in a libraria (mid-level) execution.
Layout: The text is written in 2 columns of 35 lines each, with the text area measuring 180 mm x 265 mm. There is a with a 20 mm gap left between the columns.
Decoration: There are four large initials on the verso: two red I’s that are 11 lines tall, one red I that is 7 lines tall, and an "N" in black ink with red pen-flourishing, approximately 5 lines tall, extending into the upper margin. On the recto there is another large "N" on the top line, this time with black pen-flourishing and only a single line of red ink, and also a blue "I" that is 9...
Imperfect: possibly used as binding fragment; heavily worn and wrinkled along the lower edges with significantly loss of text on both recto and verso.
