Initial D with the Birth of St. John the Baptist This initial begins the Introit for the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist (June 24), 'De ventre matris mea ...' (From my mother's womb). This image shows the reverse of a leaf with an historiated initial from a gradual. This side of the leaf, the true verso, continues the liturgy for the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, which begins on the front. This cutting can be dated to ca. 1325.
