The iconography of the Virgin and Child on a crescent moon was inspired by the text of Revelation 12:1, which describes 'a woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet.' The liturgy that this initial begins remains to be determined.
The reverse of this cutting contains a fragment of text that may be from the first response of the first nocturn of Matins for the feast of the Chair of Saint Peter (Feb. 22).
