This miniature once marked the beginning of the first lesson to be read during Matins for the feast of the Holy Innocents (Dec. 28). It is followed by a reading from Revelation 6:9: 'Et cum aperuisset quintum sigillum vidi sub[tus altare]' (And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar). The miniature comes from the same manuscript as Lewis E M 9:18 and 20-26
