Massacre of the Innocents This miniature once marked the beginning of the first lesson to be read during Matins for the feast of the Holy Innocents (Dec. 28). It is followed by a reading from Revelation 6:9: 'Et cum aperuisset quintum sigillum vidi sub[tus altare]' (And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar).
