Collation: Parchment, fol. v (four leaves of modern paper, one of modern parchment) + 11 + v (four leaves of modern paper, one of modern parchment) ; full collation not possible: likely bound out of order and certainly lacking several leaves ; modern arabic pencil foliation, upper right corner of each recto.
Layout: Single column, 28 lines. Bounding and writing lines in brown plummet.
Script: Written in a batarde in black ink. 2-line blue or red capitals throughout.
Decoration: Six full-page illustrations in the tradition of the Ars moriendi woodcuts (see contents and consult description by Lisa Fagin Davis for further detail).
Binding: 19th-century dark green velvet with parchment pastedowns and flyleaves with four paper flyleaves at front and back with elaborate armorial watermark.
Origin: Written in France around the year 1470. The text here is a translation of what is known as the "short version" of the Ars moriendi adapted from chapter two of the "long version" that appeared in manuscript form around the year 1415. This "short version" is known in numerous xylographic (blockbook) editions of the mid-fifteenth century, each of which is illustrated by one of thirteen...
