Title devised by cataloger; date and location based on script.
Collation: Parchment, fol. 4; using order as currently bound -- where each leaf is sewn-in backwards -- these leaves would have previously been ordered: 4, 3, 1, 2.
Layout: 2 columns, 33 lines; bounding and writing lines in black ink.
Script: Written in a northern textualis formata (textus quadratus) in black ink with red rubrics.
Decoration: Five and six-line puzzle initials with floral penwork interior at beginning of the Prologus Galeatus (fol. 3v) and the lesson for first Sunday after Pentecost (fol. 3v). Elsewhere, alternating red and blue lombards with floral penwork.
Binding: Bound in 19th-century half red leather and marbled boards. Bound out of order and with each leaf backwards (see collation statement and contents note)
Origin: Written in France in the 15th century.
Provenance: Book ticket of Philip C. Duschnes. With a two-page handwritten note titled, "History of the Bible Fragment," that describes the present set of four leaves as belonging to "a Bible in two volumes, containing 493 pages of uterine vellum, folio, bound sumptuously in raised parchment over boards, gold filigree, precious stones, with solid gold clasps, and the coat of arms of Charles...
Immediate source of acquisition: Donated by John D. McKenna, of Plainfield, New Jersey, after 1976.
