Collation: Parchment, iv (paper, i formerly pastedown now detached) + 75 (foliated 1-75 in modern pencil); 1-210 38(-6 with loss of text after fol. 25) 4-710 810(-8 with loss of text after fol. 74, -10); catchwords horizontally in bottom center margin of quires 1-2, vertically in bottom outer margin of quires 3 and 7. Layout: Written in 32-34 long lines; ruled with plummet in two column; prickings in outer margins. Script: Written in humanistic bookhand by 3 experienced scribes: scribe 1, fol. 1r-25v; scribe 2, fol. 26r-74v; scribe 3, fol. 75. The first hand in particular shows the influence of Gothic shading and angularity, despite the use of humanistic letter forms. Decoration: 1- to 5-line initials in red with occasional flourishing (incomplete in quires 4, 6, and 8), 11-line initial on fol. 26r, 4-line initial on fol. 37r, 10-line initial on fol. 59r, and five-line initial on fol. 70v, all drawn in black ink to look like tree branches with short twigs; opening titles in green (fol. 1r) and blue (fol. 26r); in-text and marginal rubrics in red; many... Binding: 16th-18th century limp parchment; 3 chamois thongs woven through front and back cover; red and white endbands; manuscript spine title "Sallu[s] / tius" on spine. Origin: Written by three scribes in Northern Italy around the middle of the fifteenth century, approximately between 1440 and 1460, as indicated by the script, the distinctive capitals used for the headings, and the idiosyncratic "twig" initials. Shelfmark: Chicago, IL, University of Chicago Library, Ms1734. Monogram "MvoÆ" on fol. 75v may be that of an unidentified early owner or the scribe. Owned by Domine de Pousolz, who donated it to the College of Jesuits in Puy-en-Velay, probably in 1593 when it was added to their catalogue (inscriptions top and bottom margin, fol. 1r: "Coll[eg]ij Aniciensis Soc[ie]tis Jesu catalogo inscriptus 1593", "Dono D. de Pousolz").
