Layout: Written mostly in 2 columns of 14 lines alternating between horizontal and diagonal, a few pages with long lines instead; text block framed in ink.
Script: Written in nastaʻlīq and naskh in black ink; pointed.
Decoration: 3 illuminated headpieces (f. 1v, 18v, 339v); small illuminations in gold and red in the corners of text compartments throughout; text block border-ruled in gold and blue; leaf surfaces silver sprinkled.
Binding: Contemporary (18th-century) red leather over pasteboard with flap (Type II); gilt-stamped central mandorla, two pendants on the vertical axis and a medallion along each edge; gold tooled frame; no spine, covers detached.
Origin: Copy completed before 1756 or 1757 (date of 1170 A.H. in ownership stamp, f. 1r) by Muḥammad ʻAlī walad Qāsim ibn Mawlānā Muḥammad Riḍā (f. 351r), possibly in India.
Formerly owned by Anwār al-Dawlah, 1170 A.H. (ownership stamp with date of 1756 or 1757, f. 1r) and Abū al-Faz̤l ibn Ghiyāth al-Dīn Manṣūr (inscription, f. 1r).
Formerly owned by Captain Robert Mignan (ms. 20) of the East India Company and Sir Thomas Phillipps (ms. 3920; pencil note on front flyleaf, remnants of label on remnants of spine).
Sold at auction at Sotheby's, 25 November 1968, lot 254, to Lawrence J. Schoenberg.
