From the bequest of Edward Sanford Burgess (Jan 19 1915) Purchase from Dr. Giuseppe Martini. Manuscript codex. Title devised by cataloger. Collation: small folio (286 x 215 mm) in gatherings of 8 with roman numeral signatures and folio numbers, with the exception signed XXII^15-1 (for further clarification seek report by Bryan Weston Wyly). In this fragment the first page number is [CXXXVII] on folio 1, the first quire signature is XVIII on f7r and follow to XXIIII. Cataloging numeration follows Wyly diagram, f1r is f137r, f61v... Origin: Northern France and England. Layout: 2 columns of 34 lines upon an area of 212 x 150 mm. Pricking has been trimmed but ruling by lead point is visible. Script: Gothic Minuscule Bookhand. "The script of this codex gives the general impression of an English or Northern French Gothic minuscule: the minimed letter i, u, m and n are clubbed (the u and i in debuit on f19r, column 1, line 28), letters are quite angular (the right stroke in m and n); ascenders and descenders are short (the l in calice and the p in portauit on f19r, column 1, line... Decoration: Each major section of the text begins with alternating Blue/Red initial with opposite colour tracery. Sermon headings are rubricated. Binding: Vellum over boards labelled "the Gospels - MS. XII(I) century" on spine in gilt letters. Third 'I' with gilt having been obliterated. (Third 'I' without any remaining gilt, helping explain why previous catalogues had this work misrepresented.) Inside rear cover expresses clearly watermark "MICHALLET," upon the same material of flyleaves and current, later binding Shelfmark: Eugene, OR, Special Collections and University Archives, University of Oregon, MS 035.
