Collation: Parchment, fol. 160 + i (modern foliation 1-161) ; 1-208 ; catchwords partially trimmed.
Layout: fol. 1r-159v, ruled in hard point with double boundary lines, two horizontal lines above and below extending into margin; fol. 160r-160v, rules in ink, 14th century; prickings visible in some outer and lower margins; quire 9 pricked in inner margins.
Script: Written in caroline textualis formata of the Norman variety; fol. 160, in gothic textualis of 14th century, written with an unusual gothic ampersand, minimal fusion, and long terminal s to complement the already existing codex.
Decoration: Plain initials in blue, green, or orange-red up to 13 lines high, throughout.
Origin: Main codex (fol. 1r-160v) written in England in the second third of the 12th century, certainly before approximately 1170 when dry point ruling disappeared; fol. 160 written in the 14th century at Cistercian Monastery of Ford, to whose library the codex then belonged.
Former owner's inscription of same 15th century hand responsible for marginalia: Edward Schepherde promysyd to pay xvs furtnyght after seynt James day nex ensuing. Item, a bargayn mayd for v pense a wek on seynt Mary Maudelyns eve with Elizabeth Whawen. Of [th]is Sheper[de] is recuyed vi s. viiid parte of [th]is xvs above wretyn. Former owner's inscription: Sept. 1, 1748 by the hands of Mr. Denisham of Tiverton. Mr. Richards [of] Exeter returned this manuscript to the Abbey of Ford [signed] Francis Gwyn.
