Collation: Parchment, fol. ii + 139 + i (foliated 1-142, flyleaves included in folation); 1-26 3-78 8 (entirely removed with loss of text) 9-108 118(-2) 12-138 144 15-188 194 208; catchwords.
Layout: Written in 16 long lines; ruled in violet.
Script: Written in textualis quadrata formata of uneven quality.
1. Decoration: Nine half-page illuminations accompanied by full gold and blue acanthus borders, decorated with flowers: fol. 23r (the Annunciation); fol. 40v (the Visitation); fol. 51v (the Nativity); fol. 55r (the Circumcision); fol. 58r (the Presentation in the temple); fol. 63r (the flight into Egypt); fol. 75r (Gnadenstuhl Trinity); fol. 78r (King David in prayer, a harp at his side, rays...
2. Decoration: Four historiated initials accompanied by a similar bracket left marginal border: fol. 15r (the eagle); fol. 16r (the ox); fol. 17r (the lion); fol. 18r (the angel): symbols of the Four Evangelists with each holding a banderole with his name inscribed in French.
3. Decoration: fol. 128 and 131: full border decoration; fol. 137: bracket left border; blue initials filled with magenta alternating with magenta initials filled with blue, decorated with gold flora on gold ground 2-4 lines high throughout; gold dentelle initials with white patterning on grounds of blue and magenta, thoughout.
Origin: Written in western France, probably in Angers (from calendar and litany) in about 1450.
Former owner's inscription, modern (American?) pencil note on front flyleaf records 147 leaves, 11 large, 4 small miniatures, and 18 full borders; therefore, 8 folios and 2 illuminations had been removed from this codex prior to its foliation.
Formerly no. 20 in the collection of Henry Probasco.
