Collation: Parchment, fol. 354; 1-158 168(-8) 17-308 316 32-368 376 38-438 4410.
Layout: fol. 1-48 and 128-354 in 40 lines in two columns, fol. 49-126 in 34 lines in two columns, fol. 127 irregularly ruled indicating that fol. 49-127 were written to fill in for folios lost from a preexisting manuscript; ruled in plummet; prickings visible on inner margins of fol. 49-127.
Script: Written by two scribes: fol. 1-48 and 128-354 in an early gothic textualis media, irregular word separation; fol. 49-127 in a later and more angular gothic textualis with increased fusion; guides to rubricator present in the earlier portion only.
1. Decoration: Miniatures in the style of Paris, 11 lines high, all on folios copied by the first hand: fol. 1r: the two kings and their wives (severely damaged); fol. 200r: Galahad with Lancelot behind him in armor on horseback riding through trees on a gold background; fol. 292r: Méléagant's sister in a boat approaches Lancelot, watching from a tower.
2. Decoration: Initials: alternating blue and red flourished initials throughout; those on fol. 49-127 frequently have penned representations of human faces and foliage.
Sewing holes visible around miniatures and initials, evidence of previously attached protective silk curtains.
Origin: Written in France, probably in Paris, ca. 1300; fol. 1-48 and 128-354 perhaps somewhat earlier.
Formerly in the library of Anne de Graville.
Former owner: Claude d'Urfé.
