Origin: Written and decorated in Bruges, approximately 1455, for the English market as indicated by the phrase, "secundum consuetudiem Anglie" in fol. 36r. Saints and selections of texts are typically English. Texts 11, 12, 14, and 20 in masculine form.
Former owners: William Gonstone and Thomas Mildmay.
Former owner's inscription: "The namys of the children of Wilham Gonstone and Benet his wif of the perisshe of Saincte Donistones in the est as hereafter ffolowith"; list on flyleaf i, first entry: "Friday the xxiiii day of November being Saincte Clementis Day and the xxiiii yere of King Henry VIIthe ...", last entry written in the "Sixt yere of our sayde souuerayne lorde King Henry the Eight."
Former owner's inscription listing the children of Tomas Mildmay; births recorded in various hands to 1607 including the name of Walter Mildmaye.
Heraldic ownership mark drawn in pen in lower margin of fol. 8r, possibly that of Mildmay.
Stubbs following fol. 166 indicate traces of other ownership notes, now removed.
Erasures, maskings, and scratching out of references to Thomas à Becket and indulgences date from English Reformation.
