Written in brown ink in a gothic liturgical hand.
First letters of each line stroked in yellow. Fifty-five 1-line initials alternating in red and blue. One 2-line initial in blue with red penwork. One 6-line historiated initial with acanthus scrolls in the margin decorated with a bird and moth.
Historiated initial O at beginning painted orange against burnished gold ground. Picture is of Saint Jerome looking upward and holding a rosary. The style is Florentine, cf. Daneu-Littanzi and Debae.
Italian origin based on linguistic and paleographic evidence. Tuscan ca. 1350-1400 on basis of style of illumination.
Text: lines 1-173 a collection of prayers in verse in Italian praising St. Jerome by Battista da Montefeltro; lines 174-184 confession in Latin. Text size: 98 x 10 cm.
Roll is composed of two pieces of parchment 56 and 52 cm. - Keyword:
