Script: Written in at least 2 different hands: quires 2-3 in Italian gothic textualis media incorporating occasional humanistic traits; quires 4-9 written in a similar Italian gothic textual media, with one-story "a" and trailing terminal "s"; quires 11-13 in humanistic textualis media changing to Italian hybrida media.
Decoration: fol. 1 and 17, headings in red in script of text; fol. 1r, 17r, 32v, 39v, 40v: red initials 2 lines high; fol. 1r, 17r, 25r, 33r: initial letter of each line touched in red; names of interlocutors in red.
Origin: Written in Italy, text and paper indicate in or near Milan, approximately 1430.
Armorial bookplate "Ex libris Herculis de Silva" from the library of Ercole Silva of Milan (1756-1840); listed in 1869 sales catalog "Livres rares et précieux, imprimés et manuscrits ... provenant de la bibliothèque de M. le comte H. de S***, de Milan" as number 248.
Pen trials on fol. 14v of the first sequence suggest that at least text 1 circulated separately before binding.
Blurring on fol. 25 has confused a modern reader who numbered the "Epistole metriche" incorrectly.
Former owner's inscription, fol. 31r second sequence "Hic liber est Flaminii Cribelli" in 16th-century hand.
