Listed as text 1 of "Jacques Legrand, Livre de Bonnes Meurs; Jacques de Cessoles, Liber de Moribus (in French)" (Case MS 55.5) in Catalogue of the pre-1500 western manuscript books at the Newberry Library, pages 97-98. An abridged translation and adaptation of the author's Sophologium, parts ii and iii (books 6-10). Title from printed catalog. Layout: Written in 31 lines in 2 columns; ruled in violet ink. Script: Written in lettre bâtarde formata; headings in red in script of text. The script is typical of that used in the most deluxe books of the Burgundian court at the time of Philip the Good and Charles the Bold. Consult Clemens, R. Decoration: half-page illumination fol. 5v: God the Father presiding over the fall of the angels; one-column illuminations approximately 12 lines high: fol. 37v: elevation of the Host; fol. 44v: an enthroned king with his court; fol. 58v: a rich man dispensing alms; fol. 78r: a men on his deathbed with attendants. Fol. 5r, ornate gold dentelle initials with white patterning on grounds of blue... Origin: Written and decorated in Flanders before 1478 for Wolfart de Borsele, his arms painted on lower margin and on fol. 5r and 96r without the insignia of the Order of the Golden Fleeces to which he was elected at the thirteenth chapter of the order, Bruges, 1478. Former owner's inscription, fol. 1r, "Ex libris D. Baliar [?] Bousers [?] 1562" crossed out.
