Briquet 15557, and an undetermined watermark not in Briquet) ; fol. 234 (original arabic foliation partly visible) ; 1-212 310 4-612 76 (catchword on fol. 76v matches text on fol. 77v; text on fol. 77r and part of 77v canceled by the scribe) 8-2012 212 ; catchwords throughout ; guide letters for the rubricator present; fol. 223v and 225r, space...
Layout: Written in 28-35 lines; framed ruled in pencil for two columns.
Script: Written in northern hybrida media with Italian traits; minims of the first written line hung from the upper rules line; fol. 5v, the scribe, in writing the text of Ptolemy, has lapsed into a northern gothic textualis media.
Origin: Written in Italy (the paper suggests northern Italy) by a northern scribe in the middle of the 15th century.
Marginal index notes and running headings by the scribe and rubricator, additional finding notes, glosses, and pointing hands added by several humanistic hands of the second half of the 15th century and the first half of the 16th century.
According to the information reproduced on the bookplate of Edward E. Ayer, Henry Stevens (or his son Henry Newton Stevens) purchased this manuscript for the Ptolemy collection from Quaritch between 1868 and 1898, when it was purchased by Mr. Ayer. - Keyword:
