Collation: Parchment, fol. i + 222 + i; 18(-7, 8 missing) 2-910 108 1110 1210(-10) 13-1610 1710(-10) 188(leaves removed from the end and reinserted so that the sewing precedes 7-8) 19-2210 242 (an undetermined number of leaves missing with loss of text); quires 16-19 numbered i-iiii in lower right margin of the recto of the first leaf.
Layout: Written in 28 lines in two columns; calendar ruled for 36 long lines; text ruled for 28 lines in two columns in ink; fol. 196-222, entirely reruled in red ink for musical notation.
Script: Written in Italian gothic textualis rotunda formata.
1. Decoration: Two historiated magenta, blue, green, and orange initials 7 lines high extended to form partial upper left bracket acanthus spray borders in the same colors decorated with blue and magenta flowers and clusters of three gold radiating disks; fol. 7r, (Paul with a sword); fol. 171r, (Paul with a sword and a Bible).
2. Decoration: Quire 17 only, gold dentelle initials with gold patterning on grounds of blue, olive, green, and dark red 4 lines high; red, blue, gold, and silver initials with red, blue, violet, gold, and silver flourishing, with gold and silver less prevalent after the litany of Holy Saturday and ending completely after fol. 59v; fol. 1-52, flourishing occasionally extended to form partial...
Music: Contains staff notation (4 line).
Origin: Written in northeast Italy, probably in or near Venice, as suggested by the calendar and the additions to text 6, probably after 20 June 1403 as indicated by the inclusion of the Octave of Anthony of Padua in the calendar.
Additions of fol. 113v by a scribe of the 15th century with northern training.
Formerly number 37 in the collection of Henry Probasco.
