Collation: Parchment, fol. i + 159 + i (flyleaves are old pastedowns; rear flyleaf inverted); 1-198 208(8 stub only); vertical catchwords.
Layout: Written in 33 long lines beginning on the first ruled line; ruled in hard point.
Script: Written in humanistic textualis formata slightly cursive; corrections in headings by the scribe; sporadic marginal notes by several hand, 15-17th century, some of these in violet by the scribe to serve as index notes.
Decoration: fol. 1r: gold initial decorated with white vine stem on ground of green, red, and blue, historiated with a bust of Petrarch, accompanied by full white vine stem and laurel border 14 lines high; two putti bear coat of arms in lower margin, another above in upper right; three similar gold initials decorated with white vine stem 7 lines high on fol. 38 and 87, 4 lines high on fol...
Origin: Written in Lombardy before 1464; fol. 1r, putti bear arms of Borromeo family and initials "CO FI" for Comes Filippus = Filippo Borromeo (died 1464).
