Layout: Written in 30 long lines beginning on the first ruled line. Script: Written in humanistic textualis formata. Decoration: Eleven gold initials decorated with white vine stem on grounds of green, blue, and pink, 8-11 lines high, placed at the beginning of the prologue and at each of Aristotle's ten books: fol. 1r, initials extended to form an inner border ending in clusters of three gold radiating disks, decorated at the top with a pen drawing of a bird; fol. 4v, initial decorated with two clusters of... Origin: Written in Italy, possibly Florence, in the second half of the 15th century. Contemporary marginal index notes and schematic diagrams. Bookplate, gold letters embossed on black leather, of James P. R. Lyell; "DVVV 8/4/42" written over an erasure on front pastdown, Lyell's code for dealer and price of purchase.
