Text on parchment, in a fine italic hand in brown ink; text within triple-ruled black borders; large illuminated gilt capital "D" at head of text, outlined in brown and decorated with the figure of a mermaid, a grotesque head in profile, and acanthus leaves in pink and yellow, on a landscape background; capitals on leaves [2]-[4] in gold, on red and blue panels ornamented with gold penwork... "Sentencia definitiva" introduced with an ornamental capital in red on leaf [111], followed by illuminated capitals in gold on landscape backgrounds, and horizontal panels of small red capitals entwined with leafy vines in green on leaves [111], [121], [122], and [125] at end. Contains two full-page brilliantly-colored paintings: one of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios de Cogolludo receiving the prayers of the petitioner and his wife; and on the facing page, the illuminated Romero de Tejada arms in a white and silver cartouche surrounded with acanthus leaves and pennants; on a gold background atop an arrangement of banners, swords, lances, cannon, pomegranates, and... Verso of leaf [126] contains a smaller portrait of José Romero de Tejada, wearing a rolled powdered wig; in red, blue, green, gold, black, and white. Royal stamp of King Philip V of Spain in bottom margin of recto of each leaf. Former owner: Henry Probasco. Forms part of the Henry Probasco Collection at the Newberry Library.
