Ms. codex.
Title from later penciled notation (f. 1r).
Incipit of text heading (rubric): (f. 2r) Quessto libro tratta della divina potentia.
Deo Gratias Amen.
Incipit and explicit of poem: (f. 52r) Sella fortunata fatto Singnore ... quantella nala sciati nella mota.
Origin: Italy (Venetian territory); second quarter of 15th century. Chapter list and diagrams (f. 50r-53v) appear to be 15th-16th century in date.
Script: Written in an Italian Gothic cursive, except for f. 50-52, which is written in an Italian Gothic rotunda.
Collation (current): [i], 1⁵, 2³, 3⁷(-1), 4², 5⁴(+1), 6⁸(-3). Original collation, based on catchwords: 1³, 2⁶(-1), 3⁷, 4⁷(-1), 5⁴[+2]. Catchwords in decorative frame, on what were originally the last versos of each quire. Some on recto, with first words of verso (e.g., f. 12).
Foliation: Paper, 56; [1-56]; modern foliation in pencil, upper right recto.
Older foliation: 17th-century arabic numerals in ink, upper right of some rectos. Folio 2 is numbered as 1, f. 6-9 as 5-8, f. 14 as 4, f. 15 as 3, f. 16 as 2, f. 18-24 as 9-15, f. 37-38 as 26-27, f. 39 as 24, f. 41 as 25, f. 42-43 as 21-22, f. 44-49 as 28-33.
Most folios were remargined at an early date. The current collation bears little relationship to the original, since all bifolia were made single leaves, then resewn, possibly out of order (catchwords on f. 6v do not match the text on f. 7r, and the 17th-century numbering is out of order). However, the current order agrees with the 15th-16th-century table of contents (f. 50r-52r), so the...
Decoration: 7-line blue initial with red filigree (f. 1r). Similar initials (3-line blue with red filigree and red with blue filigree) at the beginning of each chapter. Red is used throughout for headings; chapter list (f. 50r-52r) is entirely in red.
Three calendrical tables with explanatory text (f. 52v-53v). This is a later addition written in the same hand as the chapter list on ff. 50-52.
First couple of quires are slightly loose.
Binding: 19th-century half-vellum/brown marble paper over cardboard.
Paper contains several different types of watermarks not in Piccard.
Purchased on the Lessing and Edith Rosenwald fund, 1973.
Appears in H. P. Kraus's list 189 (1956), no. 182.
Ownership marks on f. 2 and 52v, now illegible; Giuseppe Martini Collection (information from dealer). - Keyword:
