Collation: Paper, ii (modern paper) + 32 (foliated 1-32 in modern pencil; folio 32 modern paper flyleaf) + i (modern paper); collation impracticable, missing the first leaf, otherwise the text appears complete. Layout: Written in 24 long lines; ruled in lead with full-length vertical bounding lines ruled in blind. Script: fol. 1r-27r written by Michaelis de Pergamo in a Gothico-Antiqua script in 24 long lines, headings in square capitals (fol. 1r, 15v, 26v); fol. 27v and 28r copied in humanist cursive scripts, likely added by early readers. Decoration: 2- to 3-line red initials at the chapter beginnings (guide letters visible in blank spaces), one 5-line initial in blue with red decoration on fol. 1r with a page length flourish; capital letters rubricated on fol. 1r-v and 4v only. Binding: 19th-century quarter green morocco with machine-made marbled paper over boards; gilt lettering on the spine reads, "Historia daniae regum"; comb marbled endpapers. Origin: A colophon on fol. 26v, dated December 10, 1432, identifies the scribe of De viris illustribus urbis Romae as Michaelis de Pergamo (Michele da Bergamo) (not included in Bénédictins de Bouveret, Colophons 1965-1982). A marginal note adds that Michele is the son of Balsarino ("filius quondam Balsarini"). Briquet notes that the Latin Cross watermarks of the type found in this manuscript... Shelfmark: Chicago, IL, University of Chicago Library, Ms1716. Notes in a 15th-century hand in the margins supplying abbreviated first names throughout. Under colophon on fol. 26v, "1534" struck through. In Spain in the nineteenth century; table of contents in Spanish is pasted to the second flyleaf at the beginning of the manuscript. Book sticker on inside back cover: "5099". Erased or faded modern pencil note on fol. 29r, possibly a bookseller's note.
