Fol. 1-4 and 430-432 are blank except for ruling. Script: The calligraphy is an "Arabic-style" Naskh that was probably written in Egypt or Turkey (late Ottoman period?). The calligrapher was familiar with both Naskh and Thuluth scripts and at times combined features of both in execution. It could be ranked a bit lower than moderate in calligraphic proficiency. Layout: Written in 13 long lines per page. Decoration: Gold leaf-shaped devices between verses. Margins ruled in gold, red, and blue. Illuminated devices in margins in gold, red, and blue. 8 elaborately illuminated double pages with ruled margins and floral motifs in gold, red, blue, and green. Two pages without text bearing ruled margins and illuminated figures in gold, red, blue, and green. Binding: Green morocco, spine faded and worn; flap detached. Rectangular panels on front and back covers decorated with rules and floral motifs in gold, red, yellow, and green. The binding style resembles works produced in Kashmir, and the ikat-like textile patterns and colors used in the binding strengthen this assumption. This suggests that the binding and the writing originate from... Origin: Calligraphy style suggests production in Egypt or Turkey in the late Ottoman period; binding style resembles works produced in Kashmir. If the tadhhīb work was done in Kashmir, it may be considered of good quality; however, if it was executed in Egypt or Turkey, it would rank rather low, since works produced in India are generally regarded as inferior in quality compared with others... One notable feature of this Qurʼān is that, within the illuminated mandorla on the first folio, one reads: "This Qurʼān has been written in accordance with the Qurʼān of ʿUthmān (the third Islamic caliph), may God be pleased with him (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu)."
