Layout: Written in 14 long lines; frame ruled in red. Script: Written in northern textualis formata. Decoration: 14 full-page miniatures in arched compartments depicting Crucifixion (fol. 1v, with kneeling woman in border), Pentecost (fol. 9v), Virgin and Child (fol. 16v), two angels supporting a shield of arms (fol. 28v), Visitation (fol. 48v), Nativity (fol. 61v), Angel and the Shepherds (fol. 37v), Adoration of the Magi (fol. 73v), Massacre of the Innocents (fol. 78v), Flight into Egypt... Binding: mid-19th century calf over boards; elaborately gold tooled on boards, spine, board edges, and turn-ins; marbled endpapers; gilt edges with painted floral designs in red, blue, and green (outlines gauffered); red silk ribbon marker. Origin: Probably produced in Burgundian Flanders, possibly Bruges, in the 2nd quarter of the 15th century based on the style of illustrations. Former shelfmark: Chicago, IL, William J. Blum, #2. Shelfmark: Chicago, IL, University of Chicago Library, Ms344. Arms of the Counts of Vianden of Luxembourg (gules, a fess argent) on fol. 28v. Sotheby catalogue description suggests that the original owner's first name was Catherine based on the inclusion of a miniature of St. Catherine.
