Bookdealer's description (Bernard Rosenthal) on file in the Library.
Cover scratched and worn, particularly at edges and spine. Some leaves stained. A few wormholes and other damage.
Title from spine.
Each of the sections on the sins begins as follows: El secondo [terço, etc.] bitio [i.e., vitio] chapitale si chiama invidia [ira, etc.].
The sections (Invidia, etc.) are indicated by headings in the upper right recto.
The last treatise (I boti) begins immediately after the section on Luxuria, without paragraphing to mark the transition.
Colophon (f. 61v): "Scritto per me Brunetto Daldobrandino et finito questo di XXIIIIo daprile MCCCCLV. a riverencia et honore diddio, et per sua gratia amen." It is possible that Brunetto D'Aldobrandino is the author of the text as well as the scribe.
Owner's note (f. 1r): "Di Bartolomeo di Larione Martelli" (could possibly be an indication of authorship as well as ownership).
Collation: Parchment, i (modern paper) + 61 + i (modern paper); [i], 6¹⁰; [1-61]; modern foliation in pencil, lower right recto. The entire first quire, probably a¹⁰, appears to be missing.
Layout: Written in 27 long lines; ruled in ink.
Script: Written in a humanistic script in the hand of Brunetto D'Aldobrandino (colophon, f. 61v).
Decoration: Initials in blue.
Binding: Modern full leather.
Origin: Possibly written in Tuscany (Zacour-Hirsch) in 1455 (colophon, f. 61v).
Formerly owned by Bartolomeo di Larione Martelli (signature, f. 1r).
Sold by Bernard Rosenthal, 1959. - Keyword:
