Note:

Belonged to a Grante (19th cent.?); then in the library of Richard Heber, and later passed into the library of Sir Thomas Phillipps (his no. 8248). On spine: Phillipps no. 8248 pasted on; also "1047" pasted on. Front pastedown, in ink, the name "Grante"; below, bookplate of the Bancroft Library.

Collation: Paper, fol. i + 60 (Briquet, 13745, 8130, and 9753) + i; 1-106; vertical catchwords.
Layout: Ruling for three 8-line stanzas per page, frame ruled in red, with double lines on top for headings and on bottom and on left margin for marginalia.
Script: Humanistic, with headings in rustic roman capitals. 3 scribes: A, 1-88; B, 155-188; C, 188-300.
Binding: 16th cent. goatskin; 4 raised thongs; sides paneled with quintuple rules, border of repeated lozenge tools with quatrefoil, central panel filled with diaper of fleur-de-lys.
Decoration: Decorative ascenders and descenders on top and bottom lines, first initial of each line washed with yellow; headings in red; unexecuted initials.
Origin: The binding, watermarks, and textual variants suggest that the manuscript was produced in Southern France, perhaps Franche-Comté, which was then a possession of the Spanish crown. The date appears on fol. 49v: "anno incharnationis Iesus Christi M Quingentesimo qui[nto] decimo."
