Collation: Parchment; fol. i (paper) + 70 + i (paper); 1-58 64 7-88 910; quires signed on center back of folio of last leaf of gathering; numbered on the center bottom of the first leaf of each gathering in a later hand.
Layout: 28-30 lines of text, line-ruled in lead. Texts 1 and 3 ruled for one column of text and a narrower column of gloss. Double lines running length of page on left and right. Another vertical line on outer edge for gloss.
Script: Protogothic (a rounded gothic hand with elements of caroline minuscule).
Decoration: 6-line illuminated initial in red and gold with pen flourishes; 4-7-line initials, some inhabited, in red with pen flourishes. 2-line initials in red. Initial on fol. 68r appears to be of a different style.
Binding: Full leather binding over boards; 3 raised bands. Pastedowns and endsheets of marbled paper. On spine: "Horatius de arte poetica cum scholiis. M.S.N. Memb. SAEC. XI."
