Note:

Mistakenly thought to be from library of Francis Petrarch (engravings on pastedowns and front flyleaf are part of this fictional provenance). It is known to have been in the Carthusian monastery of Garegnano, near Linterno; at the monastery's suppression the codex passed to the Visconti family, then to the engineer Giuseppe Bruschetti, who sold it to Luigi Arrigoni; it then came successively...

Collation: Parchment, fol. i (palimpsest) + 104; 1-98 106 11-138142; catchwords at end of each quire.
Layout: Written in 2 columns of 58 lines; frame-ruled in dry point, some brown crayon; prickings visible in outer margin throughout, on fol. 65 prickings visible in gutter.
Script: Written in Gothic script by one hand.
Decoration: 9-line opening initial in parted red and blue with pen flourishing of both colors; 2-line initials in alternating red and blue with pen flourishing of other color extending to 2/3 the length of text; alternating red and blue roman numerals for chapters.
Binding: 15th cent. Scraped parchment over wooden boards; 5 bands covered with reinforcing leather strips nailed to outside of boards; sewn endbands, missing in places; binding fragile and worm-eaten near spine.
Origin: Executed south-eastern France in second half of 13th cent.
