Collation: Parchment, fol. ii (modern parchment) + 259 + ii (modern parchment); 1-310 410 (fol. 4-6 bound in reverse order; should be read 34, 36, 35, 37) 5-1410 1510 (second bifolium of quire 15 bound in reversed position with early modern tie marks directing reader: fol. 151, 159, 153-158, 152, 160) 16-2510 2610 (fol. 10 missing); catchwords vertically along inner bounding line.
Layout: Written in 34 long lines ruled in ink; frame-ruled.
Script: Written in a round Italian gothic book hand by Andreuccio della Monaca.
Decoration: 30 historiated initials by Cola Rapicano, usually 11-line in blue, maroon and green acanthus on gold ground. 13-line initial on fol. 1 shows Paul the hermit in front of his cave, weaving a basket. Secondary 4-line capitals in gold on blue and red ground. Rubrics in red except for fol. 1, which has 6 lines of rubrics in gold square capitals. Offset of a full decorated border...
Binding: 19th century blind-tooled blue morocco with gilt fillet and gilt edges.
Origin: Written in Naples between 5 Nov. 1473 and 1 Apr. 1474 by Andreuccio della Monaca of Cava dei Tirreni, and illuminated by Cola Rapaicano, as a gift from the Aragonese court in Naples to Giovannella Caracciolo, Duchess of Termoli, daughter of Giacomo Caracciolo (the chancellor of the realm), and a mistress of King Ferrante I of Naples.
